QuickCap Game 21

Yankees 8
Tigers 6

Nick Swisher with 2 more homers tonight, giving him 3 in 2 days. Maybe he's back on track and can heat up after his recent downslide. The game was in hand and got a little scary in the 9th but a win is a win nonetheless. The Yanks take 2 of 3 which is good considering they lost the game. This gives the Yanks some momentum going back to the Stadium for their homestand.

QuickCap Game 20

Yankees 11
Tigers 0

Phil Hughes with a huge start. Boy did he look good. Just what the Yanks needed. Jose Molina with a grand slam, now only if they can build off this and move forward on to bigger and better things.

Four in a row in the loss column. A lost weekend turned in Boston continued into Detriot last night as the Yanks and CC Sabathia couldn't find any sort of rthymn. Things have to turn around before this gets ugly.

Bad weekend here for the Bombers, especially when they should've won at least 2 of the 3 games this weekend.

Yankees 4
Red Sox 5
Final 11 innings

4 for 19 with runners in scoring position!Come on boys, you gotta do better than that. This lack of hitting in the clutch has been the achillies heel for this team for the last several years, when are they gonna be able to be consistent in those situations? Mariano Rivera blowing the save? When does that happen? Every once in a while, but you wish it wasn't to Boston. Better win for the Sox than it was a lost for the Yanks. Boston's won 8 straight.

Who says Melky Cabrera is done? 2 homers today! Good job by Joe Girardi for sticking with the Melk Man after striking out 3 straight times. Cabrera's confidence has to be at a high, let's hope he continues to ride that into Boston this weekend.

Andy Pettitte stopped the bleeding. He gave the Yanks a must needed quality start and most importantly led them to a win. I can't say enough how valuable this guy is. He's the best guy in the Yanks starting rotation at the moment.

QuickCap Game 12: Big Bummer In The Bronx

Indians 22
Yankees 4

What the hell happened today? That was one of the worst games I've ever seen. To top that off me and my buddy Scott were in attendance (thanks to Jesus and the rest of the Chasing Records crew) for the 14-run second inning. I predicted 3 innings and 9 runs for Wang today and boy how close was I with that?? Embarrassing is all I can say about that. No further comment about this one....Wang is hurt I truly believe that. There's something wrong with him and the Yanks to figure out fast what they're gonna do with him before it's too late.

Quickcap Game 11: Jeter Gets Yanks 1st Yankee Stadium Win

Indians 5
Yankees 6

Derek Jeter does it again! Isn't it fitting he hit the go-ahead homerun with 2 outsd in the eight to get the Yankees their first win in the New Yankee Stadium, a building that many believe to be his. Amazing stuff from the Captain, another special day in the Bronx. This is how it should've been yesterday but no complaints here.

What a great day for the Yankees Home Opener, I liked Kelly Clarkson singing the National Anthem the most lol because the game was good until the 7th then I got disgusted. Jose Veras and Damaso Marte forgot how to pitch, leading to a forgettable Yankee Stadium opener.

A-Rod Has New Gal Pal, Hip Ready To Go?

Alex Rodriguez makes headlines with whatever he does, he really has become a magnet for media attention since his arrival in New York in 2004. The latest headline for A-Rod is that he was seen with "The Real Housewives of New York City" star Bethenny Frankel on Friday night in Miami.

Rumor has it he was also suppose to take her out on Saturday night. It was reported in today's NY Daily News that A-Rod and Frankel hooked up three months ago but after "rounding the bases" Alex cut things off. When Frankel was asked about the connection with A-Rod she responded,

"We're madly in love; we're engaged. I fly to Miami every weekend. I'm in the front row when they're playing. I never felt this way."

Nothing has been confirmed by either Rodriguez or Frankel on the report of them dating. A-Rod does have to watch his late night activities with that bum hip because there is over $25 million invested in it by the Yankees and they hope he's ready to go in a few weeks, May 15th is the date they target his return.

It's good to know A-Rod's hip is good to go because the Yanks will need his power at the plate and his flexibility on the field. Maybe Frankel should let the Yanks know how his hip is, maybe he's ready to return to the team sooner than we thought.

QuickCap Game 5: CC Turns It Around

Yankees 6
Royals 1

Sabathia was filthy tonight. Whatever he did in his first start he made sure he didn't do tonight. His fastball was clocked as high as 97 tonight, good signs for CC and the Yanks. Isn't this great how the Yanks can throw out a quality starter everyday? Joba makes his season debut today, let's see what the young gun has in store for us.

That's more like it. Strong hitting and good pitching from Burnett. Nice to see Teixeira go yard, as well as Robbie. How about Swisher with 5 RBI's? Now hopefully we can continue this going into Kansas City this weekend.

8 innings, 17 hits, 13 earned runs, 8 walks, 0 K's and 14.63 ERA. That's what the much hyped Yankees rotation has given us so far between CC Sabathia and Chien-Ming Wang. Not making my predictions look any good. AJ Burnett already faces his first must win game tomrrow, because the Yankees CAN NOT start 0-3 can they?

Sabathia couldn't command his fastball but I wouldn't worry. The offense leaving 11 men on base is something to worry about. It was probably all nerves. Better luck with Wang on Wednesday.

It's finally here. After months and months of talk, the talk is about to subside and the 2009 is about to start. It will be an amazing season folks, sit back and enjoy. The Yanks play at 4:05pm against the Baltimore Orioles. Today will mark CC Sabathia's first start for the Yanks. Good luck CC and bring us to the promise land in October.

C800 2009 Yankees Outlook: Starting Rotation

Chasing800 is going to look at each position and give you insight and opinion on the current situation and what may loom ahead. Today we will look at the Starting Rotation.

Current Situation:
This is possibly one of the best rotations ever put together by the Yankees and if they all manage to stay healthy, this will be a year that we will never forget. The talent is too much for one team to handle but the Yanks will gladly try. With the offseason additions of CC Sabathia and AJ Burnett, the Yankees got themselves two shut down pitchers who can dominate the game and steer the team to victory. Chein-Ming Wang is back from injury and should he return to form he is capable of winning 19 games. Andy Pettitte danced around wheter he was making a return to the Bronx but he jumped on board and thus returns as the no. 4 starter. He can eat innings and should provide the Yanks with close t0 200 quality innings. The wild card in all this is Joba Chamberlain. He is lights out when he's on and can dominate a game, much like he did last year in a game against the Red Sox over the summer. He will be on an innings limit this season but when he's out there, he will provide nasty stuff and irritate opposing batters. He can be a no. 2 starter on most teams, the fact he's the Yanks no. 5 shows you the depth they have this year. There is a lot to be excited about in the Bronx this season and these 5 guys are much of the reason for it.

Waiting in the wings is Phil Hughes should someone go down due to injury or ineffectiveness. He has looked good all spring and maybe, just maybe he is ready to show the world why the Yankees have invested so much in him.

Chasing800 Prediction:
Sabathia: 18-9 4.32 ERA
Wang: 17-8 3.89 ERA
Burnett: 15-9 3.43 ERA
Pettitte: 13-11 4.45 ERA
Chamberlain: 12-7 3.34 ERA

Burnett and Joba miss some time with injuries with Hughes filling in more than expected. Hughes makes around 8-12 starts. That rotation is going to combine for 75 wins with an ERA below 4. Hitting didn't win championships for the Yankees, pitching did, and this year will be no different.

C800 2009 Predictions: Yanks Bring Title Home

As the 2009 season is just hours away from begining for the Yankees, I find it the right time to make my 2009 predictions. I have some readers who have been waiting for this so here we go.

In the National League:

EAST
Phillies
Mets
Marlins
Braves
Nationals

CENTRAL
Cubs
Cardinals
Brewers
Reds
Pirates

WEST
Dodgers
Diamondbacks
Padres
Giants

In the American League

EAST
Yankees
Red Sox
Rays
Blue Jays
Orioles

CENTRAL
Indians
Twins
White Sox
Tigers
Royals

WEST
Angels
A's
Rangers
Mariners

NL Wild Card: Mets
AL Wild Card: Red Sox

AL Champs: Yankees
NL Champs: Cubs
World Champs: Yankees

Yes, let the debate begin but honestly if the Yankees play the way they have all spring and can stay healthy all across the board, there is no better all around team and no one will matchup with their pitching. If the Yanks make it to the playoffs, which they should, I see Joba Chamberlain moving into the set-up role for October and from there it's lights out.

Coming Up On Chasing800

I apologize with the lack of updates over the last couple weeks, things have been hectic with my schedule thus creating no time to update the blog on a regular basis but as the season is about to open for the Yanks tomorrow I will be updating on a daily basis. Here's what I have planned for Opening Day:

- C800 2009 Yankees Outlook:
The Bench
The Starting Rotation
The Bullpen
Third Base

- C800 QuickCap
A one or two sentence recap on each game. This is a new feature I will be doing to recap the main parts of each game.

This is going to be a great season for the Yankees and for Chasing800 and the ChasingRecords family, we hope you can be apart of all the fun!

C800 2009 Yankees Outlook: 1B

Chasing800 is going to look at each position and give you insight and opinion on the current situation and what may loom ahead. Today we will look at First Base.

Current Situation:
Mark Teixeira
is your man at First Base for 2009 and the immediate future. After signing an 8 year deal in the offseason with the Yankees, Tex has found a new home and looks forward to bringing a championship back to the Bronx. His defense and offense are upgrades over Jason Giambi, who left for the Oakland A's over the winter. Teixeria should help his fellow infielders Robinson Cano, Derek Jeter and when he comes back, Alex Rodriguez and save them a few errors. This guy is a pure stud any way you want to look at him. He can win a Gold Glove and hit 40 HR and drive in 130 RBI. This is the guy the Yankees want to have in their lineup for so many reasons. He's about to hit his prime and is ready to show the world why he chose the Yankees over the Angels and Red Sox.

Chasing800 Prediction:
Mark is going to have a great season. The key is to see if he starts the season slow like in past years. His production should also increase once A-Rod comes back in May. I'm looking at .317 39 HR 117 RBI for Tex in his first season in the Bronx. Some may say he should put up slightly better numbers than that and to that I agree, but I want to stay realistic here. I also predict a Gold Glove for Tex this year. He's been tearing the ball all spring so let's hope he rides that right into the season.

My Impressions Of The New Yankee Stadium

Last night the Yankees opened their new Stadium in style. I was able to score a ticket from a co-worker yesterday morning and thus I was headed for the new ballpark in the Bronx.

The place is amazing, it really is. If you're going to a game you should go early and just walk around. There's so much room to navigate. There are team stores all throughout the stadium. There is so many more options when it comes to food and the line to wait for it isn't bad either. May I recommend the garlic fries, they were incredible, the smell from the garlic will get to you at some point while you're passing the concourse and you WILL be tempted to try them. There are HD TVs everywhere you go. Bring a camera with you when you arrive to the park because you will be taking a million pictures.

My seats were in the second row right behind the Right Field Foul Pole. I saw myself on tv a few times last night, boy was that cool. Hideki Matsui's Homerun off the RF foul Pole was heading right for me if it didn't hit. I got to see Chien-Ming Wang, Jorge Posada, and Derek Jeter up close from the standing right at the RF wall. Even Ted Lily made his way to where I was and I could see the focus on his face as he was preparing for the game last night. As I was walking around the stadium I got to go to the LF wall and watch the Cubs work oout right in front of me, pretty cool stuff. I didn't get to see Monument Park because it was closed due to to the rain but I'll get a chance to see it when I return on April 18th. I was very impressed by the new digs and it was without question a more enjoyable experience than the old stadium. More room, more comfort, more to see, more to eat, more everything, how could you go wrong? I give the place an A from what I saw. I'm sure I didn't see everything (the resturants were booked so I couldn't get in) but I don't doubt they are top notch places.

As for the game, Matsui, Robinson Cano, and Cody Ransom all hit home runs to help the Yankees overcome an early deficit and thus the Yanks won 7-4. Once I'm able to upload the pics I took, I will post them here. If you're going to the game today, enjoy yourself, you will truly be in awe.
